ISO 14001 environmental standard survey

The current version of the leading environmental management system standard ISO 14001 was published in 2015.

As part of ISO’s continuous programme of reviewing their standards, the Technical Committee responsible for Environmental Management Systems (ISO/TC 207/SC 1) is starting the review process which could lead to ISO 14001’s revision.

One of the first steps it is taking is a survey to gather as wide a set of views as possible on the existing standard and what should happen next.

The Technical Committee notes that:

‘The questionnaire is intended to be completed by

  • Individuals in organizations that have implemented ISO 14001 and/or ISO 14004 (users);
  • other individuals with other working knowledge or interest in ISO 14001 (e.g., certification bodies, regulatory agencies, academia, research institutions, trade associations, industry groups, and learned societies).’

The survey should take about 20 minutes to complete and is available until 13 November 2021.

ISO 14001 is the world’s second most certified management system standard with almost 350,000 accredited certificates across the globe covering in excess of half a million sites (Source: ISO 2020 survey). More details of the certification offered by IIOC members can be seen here.

With the need to address climate change and support the UN’s sustainable development goals, contributing to the next phase of ISO 14001 is a significant step forward.
